Old Peg

1. I had an old mare, her name was Peg;

2. Now you’re probably wondering how come my old mare;

3. I tell you for sure there was never a calf;

4. When Old Peg was voted the Horse of the Year;

5. I’ll never forget the day Old Peg died;

1. And she looked kinda weird, she had only one leg

2. Had only one leg instead of two pair

3. That could outrun Old Peg. She was some kinda fast.

4. Folks came to see her from both far and near

5. And the miscalculation that cost her her life

1. I’d saddle her up and away we would go

2. It was a defect at birth from causes unknown;

3. I’d rope’em quick when Old Peg run’em down;

4. When they all stood and cheered her, Old Peg was so proud;

5. When she did her last backflip, my poor darling Peg

1. To do some calf roping at the big rodeo <CHORUS 1>

2. Some kinda shortage of leg chromosomes

3. Then she’d do a backflip, stick her leg in the ground <CHORUS 1>

4. She lifted her tail up and winked at the crowd

5. Stuck her head in the ground instead of her leg <CHORUS 2>

1. Old Peg was a winner from the start to the end

2. When they ground her into wieners, it sure made me mad

1. She’d lay back her ears and hop like the wind

2. Cause she was the best horse a man ever had

1. To stay in the saddle was no easy trick

2. And folks who once cheered her just gathered around

1. It was sorta like riding a live pogo stick

2. Smeared her with mustard and gobbled her down.
